Bitcoin Price Performance Over the Weekend
Bitcoin’s price performance over the weekend remains calm, trading close to the $84,000 level.
Altcoins Struggle
Most altcoins are slightly down on a daily scale, with the exception of Ton, which saw a rise following positive news about Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov.
BTC Stands Still at $84K
It was a volatile week for Bitcoin. It started on Monday with a $6,000 drop, bringing the price down to $80,000. After defending that level, it briefly bounced back to $84,000 before losing ground again as bears applied pressure. The cryptocurrency plummeted to a four-month low of under $77,000, but bulls intervened, preventing further declines. On Thursday, BTC topped $80,000 and hit $84,000. Despite favorable US CPI data for February, it struggled to maintain gains. It briefly crossed $85,000 on Friday but retraced to approximately $84,000 over the weekend. Its market capitalization is under $1.670 trillion, with a market dominance of around 59%.
TON on the Rise
The biggest news in the cryptocurrency community came from France concerning Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov. After his August 2024 arrest, French authorities returned his passport on Saturday, as announced by the TON Foundation. Consequently, Toncoin surged by over 20%, though it has since slightly declined but remains in double-digit gains.
Other notable gainers include MNT, which surged by 8%, and AVAX, which rose by 3%. Meanwhile, most other cryptocurrencies, such as XRP, DOGE, LTC, and ADA, are currently in the red.
The total cryptocurrency market capitalization has decreased by about $30 billion since yesterday’s peak, now standing below $2.840 trillion.
