WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Officials from Trump's transition team are considering key candidates for financial agency leadership, including top lawyer from Robinhood and former SEC commissioners.
SEC Chair Candidates
Among potential candidates for chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is Dan Gallagher, a former Republican SEC commissioner (2011-2015) and current chief legal officer at Robinhood. Gallagher is favored among cryptocurrency executives who supported Trump's campaign.
Also considered are Paul Atkins, another former Republican SEC commissioner, and Robert Stebbins, who previously served as SEC general counsel.
According to sources, the transition team is compiling a shortlist of individuals for various financial agencies to present to Trump, although discussions remain dynamic.
Banking Regulators
While specific financial policies have not been detailed, Trump has reiterated his intentions to reduce regulations. Potential candidates for top banking regulatory positions include Michelle Bowman, a Fed governor, and Travis Hill, Republican vice chairman of the FDIC.
Additionally, Jonathan Gould, a former senior deputy comptroller, is also being discussed.
As the process unfolds, it will take several weeks to determine the final selections for these key roles, which aim to drive changes in financial regulation and oversight.
In a statement, Trump's national press secretary acknowledged upcoming hiring decisions. The current SEC chair, Gary Gensler, may resign once the new administration takes office.
Despite various candidates being proposed, communication from those involved has been minimal, with many choosing not to comment on their potential selection.
