Surge in Italian Sparkling Wine Exports to the U.S.

MILAN (Reuters) – Exports of Italian sparkling wine, including prosecco, to the United States experienced a significant increase in November, according to the latest data from the industry group Unione Italiana Vini (UIV).

In November, export volumes grew by 41%, compared to 19.5% growth seen in the first 11 months of the year overall. The UIV noted a “sudden rush to stockpile” in anticipation of potential tariffs on imported goods that President Donald Trump may impose following his inauguration.

This surge marks a record for November, with exports of bottled still wines from Italy also increasing by 17% during the same period. According to UIV’s chairman, Lamberto Frescobaldi, the export value is projected to exceed €1.9 billion (about $2 billion) in 2024, with the U.S. accounting for 24% of Italian wine exports.

Trump has indicated plans to impose tariffs on the European Union and other nations due to their trade surpluses with the United States. (Exchange rate: $1 = €0.9599)
