Missile Intercepted in Central Israel

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – A surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen at central Israel on Monday was intercepted, according to the Israeli military.

The missile triggered air raid sirens across large areas of central Israel, prompting residents to seek shelter.

The military stated, “Following the sirens that sounded in a number of areas in central Israel, the surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted” by the Israeli Air Force.

The statement did not identify the missile’s source. The Iran-backed Houthi movement controlling northern Yemen has frequently launched attacks on Israel over the past year, claiming solidarity with the Palestinians.
