Yum Brands Removes Fresh Onions from Menu
(Reuters) – Yum Brands announced on Thursday that it will be removing fresh onions from its meals at certain Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC restaurants. This decision comes out of an "abundance of caution" following an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers.
The E. coli outbreak has resulted in at least one death and has sickened nearly 50 individuals across the western and midwestern United States.
In response, McDonald's has removed the Quarter Pounder, which contains fresh onions, from its menu in Colorado, Kansas, Utah, and Wyoming, as well as in parts of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
