Gemini Launches XRP Credit Card

Gemini, a major US cryptocurrency exchange, has officially announced its XRP credit card, which was initially teased earlier this month.

The owners of the much-hyped card can earn:
4% cash back on gas, EV charging, and public transport.
3% cash back on dining.
2% cash back on groceries.
1% cash back on other purchases.

Community Reaction

The XRP community is not impressed by the introduction of the new product, with some members complaining that it does not add anything particularly new, aside from the “XRP” logo.

> “So basically the same product you ALREADY HAVE … but with a little “X” on it 🤦🏻‍♂️ Jeez…”

The exchange, run by the Winklevoss twins, initially announced XRP rewards in March, allowing customers to earn up to 4% cashback. Given that many clients already use the regular card, the recent announcement felt anticlimactic.

> “So a new camo for the same card. EW”

Why XRP?

As reported by U.Today, the Winklevoss twins have a complicated history with the XRP community. After dismissing its members as “dumb trolls,” they have since made amends with holders of the third-largest cryptocurrency.

In its latest blog post, Gemini clarified that it introduced the XRP-specific card due to the significant gains the token has seen over the past year, with $73,700 worth of rewards turning into $407,000.

Gemini CEO Tyler Winklevoss stated that the XRP community can express their “passion” and “loyalty” through the new card. Meanwhile, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse claims the product will make crypto “simple” and “approachable.”
