Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin Expresses Disappointment Over ‘Moral Reversal’ in Crypto Industry
On February 20th, Vitalik Buterin participated in an AMA session where he addressed questions about his frustrations in the crypto sector over the past year. He highlighted critiques aimed at Ethereum for not wholly supporting blockchain casinos.
Buterin stated, “Perhaps the most disappointing thing for me recently was when someone said that Ethereum is bad and intolerant because we don’t respect the ‘casinos’ on the blockchain enough. Other chains are happy to accept any application, so they are better.”
Vitalik Will Not Participate in Blockchain if Community Chooses ‘Moral Reversal’
He affirmed that he would withdraw from the blockchain space if its members embraced a “moral reversal,” which contradicts his core beliefs. While expressing disappointment in online crypto discussions, Buterin noted that personal interactions with crypto enthusiasts still highlight the thriving core values of the community.
Buterin emphasized his commitment to serving Ethereum and its community. He encouraged Ethereum supporters to actively participate in shaping the desired future. He proposed that the Ethereum Foundation should begin steering the ecosystem in a direction aligned with Ethereum’s mission by supporting specific project types.
Ethereum Foundation Modifies Its Funding Approach
Buterin’s comments followed the Ethereum Foundation’s recent adjustments to its funding strategies. On January 20th, members of the Ethereum community criticized the Foundation for selling Ethereum to finance operations, suggesting alternative funding methods through DeFi instead of market dumping.
In response, on February 13th, the Foundation committed to deploying 45,000 Ethereum (approximately $120 million) across various DeFi platforms including Compound, Spark, and Aave. This initiative was well-received by the ETH community, with the Foundation indicating that this was just the beginning and expressing intentions to explore staking options.
