Ethereum Foundation Leadership Changes
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced that “large changes” to the leadership structure of the Ethereum Foundation (EF) are underway, although its core mission will remain unchanged.
In a post on X, Buterin outlined several goals for the leadership changes:
– Improve technical knowledge among EF leadership
– Enhance communication with developers and users
– Bring in fresh talent to boost execution ability and speed
– Broaden the use of decentralized and privacy-centric technology
However, Buterin resisted calls for the EF to engage in aggressive lobbying on behalf of Ethereum. He expressed concerns that this could compromise Ethereum’s role as a neutral global platform and stated, “These things aren’t what EF does and this isn’t going to change. People seeking a different vision are welcome to start their own organizations.”
Turmoil in the Ethereum Community
Buterin’s announcement follows criticism of the EF’s leadership and activities, particularly after President-elect Trump’s decision to launch his official memecoin on Solana instead of Ethereum, which sparked fresh complaints on social media.
Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, proposed two potential replacements for current EF executive director Aya Miyaguchi, acknowledging her efforts in enhancing the foundation’s trajectory. Lubin suggested that the changing environment necessitates new leadership and pitched Danny Ryan and Jerome de Tychey as co-leaders.
He described their leadership as a needed injection of energy, creativity, and drive for the Ethereum community to solidify its standing as a premier blockchain ecosystem. Lubin also cited de Tychey’s recommendations for better communication and bold messaging, emphasizing that Ethereum’s strength comes from adapting and thriving through collaboration.
