NHTSA Raises Concerns About Tesla's Full Self-Driving Software
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has expressed concerns regarding Tesla's social media posts that imply its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software can function as a robotaxi without driver attention.
In October, NHTSA initiated an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with FSD software following four reported collisions, including a fatal crash in 2023. In a May 14 email, which was made public on Friday, NHTSA informed Tesla that its social media messages might lead the public to perceive FSD as a robotaxi, instead of recognizing it as a partial automation/driver assist system that necessitates constant driver attention and occasional intervention.
