U.K. Stock Market Update

Investing.com – U.K. stocks ended lower on Wednesday, primarily due to declines in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Industrial Transportation, and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 index fell by 0.35%.

Best Performers

The standout stocks for the session included:
Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR): rose 1.78% (8.40 points) to 480.70.
Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB): gained 1.64% (36.00 points) to 2,229.00.
Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD): increased 1.48% (1.12 points) to 76.78.

Worst Performers

On the contrary, the worst performers were:
Airtel Africa PLC (LON:AAF): dropped 5.17% (6.00 points) to 110.00.
Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV): decreased 4.56% (23.70 points) to 496.30.
Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY): fell 4.53% (29.60 points) to 623.20.

Overall, falling stocks outnumbered gainers on the London Stock Exchange by 1157 to 656, with 657 remaining unchanged.

Note that shares of Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) reached 5-year highs, while Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) hit 5-year lows.

Commodities Update

  • Gold Futures for December delivery rose 0.12% (3.10) to $2,526.10 per troy ounce.
  • Crude Oil for October delivery fell 0.84% (0.59) to $69.75 per barrel.
  • Brent Oil (November contract) dropped 0.75% (0.55) to $73.20 per barrel.

Currency Update

  • GBP/USD remained unchanged, up 0.21% to 1.31.
  • EUR/GBP was unchanged, up 0.14% to 0.84.
  • The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 101.33.
