Trump Revokes Biden’s Security Clearances

(Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he is revoking former President Joe Biden’s security clearances and ending his daily intelligence briefings, stating that there is no need for his predecessor to receive classified information.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump referenced a report by Special Counsel Robert Hur, which characterized Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” last year.

Biden maintained that his memory is fine, although a spokesperson for him declined to comment when contacted by Reuters on Friday.

Hur also indicated in 2024 that Biden would not face charges for allegedly taking classified documents when he left the vice presidency in 2017. Biden refuted the claim that he willfully kept any classified materials, calling it “just plain wrong.”

Typically, former presidents continue to receive some intelligence briefings even after leaving office. Trump’s post also noted that Biden had previously instructed the intelligence community to prevent Trump from obtaining national security information.

In 2021, shortly after taking office, Biden told CBS that he did not think Trump should have access to intelligence briefings due to his “erratic behavior” and expressed concern about possible information leaks.

> “What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?” Biden stated at the time.
