U.S. Treasury Appoints Tyler Williams as Digital Assets Adviser
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has appointed Tyler Williams, regulatory counsel at Galaxy Digital, to advise on digital assets and blockchain technology policy.
Williams is currently the head of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs at Galaxy Digital and also lectures part-time at The George Washington University Law School. He has significant experience in government, having served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Treasury under Steven Mnuchin from 2018 to 2020, advising on digital assets. Additionally, he has worked with Senator Thom Tillis and Congressmen Robert Hurt and John Boehner.
Recently, President Donald Trump signed an executive order calling for the creation of a sovereign wealth fund by the Treasury and Commerce Departments, which is expected to be established by the end of the year. Although bitcoin (BTC) is not explicitly mentioned, it may serve as a potential avenue for the government to acquire and hold cryptocurrency.
Trump has previously suggested that the federal government consider holding digital currencies as part of its national reserve strategy. However, in the recent executive order, he directed his crypto advisers to assess the feasibility of a digital asset reserve.
