Starbucks Workers Union to Strike in Major Cities
Investing.com– A Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) workers union representing over 10,000 workers announced a strike in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle starting Friday, lasting until at least Christmas.
Workers United stated that walkouts will commence Friday morning and “escalate each day through Christmas Eve,” citing demands for improved working conditions and pay due to unfair labor practices.
This decision follows a recent authorization vote for a strike, driven by stagnation in negotiations with Starbucks management.
Over the past three years, more than 500 company-owned Starbucks outlets have unionized.
This strike poses additional challenges for Starbucks, which has faced declining demand and rising costs for two years.
Earlier this year, the company appointed turnaround expert Brian Niccol as CEO, who previously revitalized Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG) and is involved in ongoing union negotiations.
