Spirit Airlines Flight Struck by Gunfire
PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) – A Spirit Airlines flight attempting to land in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, was struck by gunfire on Monday, forcing it to divert to the Dominican Republic, the Miami Herald reported.
A flight attendant was grazed by a bullet, according to the report. All flights in and out of Toussaint Louverture International Airport have been halted.
Spirit Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
Photos circulating on social media showed a bullet hole piercing the belly of the plane, although these images have not been verified. An unverified video, seemingly taken by a Spirit employee, shows that another bullet had entered near the back exit door and struck an overhead bin across the aisle.
