Lamina1 Merges with Another World

Lamina1, the metaverse project founded by “Snow Crash” author Neal Stephenson, announced on Wednesday its merger with Another World.

Another World, a South Korean metaverse initiative built on the Kaia blockchain in 2022, will now be a part of the Lamina1 ecosystem. According to a statement, Lamina1’s parent company, Open Metaverse Limited, has acquired Another World in “an all-token deal.”

In the upcoming weeks, Lamina1 plans to migrate Another World’s community, comprising over 500,000 token holders, investors, metaverse builders, developers, and enthusiasts into the L1 ecosystem. This will be facilitated through token exchanges and targeted onboarding designed to activate their community, as mentioned in a blog post. Staff from Another World will join Lamina1 to aid in building the Lamina1 Hub platform.

Rebecca Barkin, who is also a co-founder, became CEO of Lamina1 in early 2023. The project is backed by notable investors, including LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Ripple.

Despite a decrease in metaverse interest since Mark Zuckerberg’s rebranding of his tech empire to Meta, companies like Lamina1, Decentraland, and The Sandbox are still developing their ecosystems, hoping for exponential growth in the future.

Lamina1 stated that Another World has spent the last two years prototyping and developing several on-chain/open metaverse experiences, including ‘GROUNDI,’ a M2E app with over 150,000 downloads; ‘NO ONE ESCAPE,’ an exciting racing competition game; and Another Arcade, a hub of fun mini-games that ranked in the top 10 among all apps on Google Play.

Additionally, Lamina1 announced that holders of Another World’s AWM token will have nine months to convert their tokens to L1 and begin participating within the L1 ecosystem.
