Collaboration Between Razer and World Network

Sam Altman’s blockchain project, World Network, is collaborating with gaming hardware firm Razer to introduce features aimed at eliminating bots from video games.

Razer ID Verified by World ID

The new mechanism, called Razer ID verified by World ID, serves as a single sign-on that distinguishes real human gamers from bots. It enhances Razer ID, Razer’s existing login service, ensuring that there’s “a real person behind every Razer ID account,” as per their statement.

The Impact of AI in Gaming

This partnership arises during a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is integrating into various aspects of online life, including video games, which have historically faced issues with non-human AI bots. A study by Echelon Insights, shared by World, indicated that nearly 59% of gamers frequently encounter unauthorized bots in games. These bots not only annoy players but often hold tactical advantages, undermining the competitiveness of multiplayer games.

“Game developers now have a tool to create environments where real players, not bots, dominate the digital landscape,” stated World.

Blockchain Integration

Razer’s collaboration expands upon World’s existing blockchain identity solution, which utilizes iris scans to differentiate real humans from bots online.

This feature will first launch in TOKYO BEAST, a blockchain-based game set in a future Tokyo, where humans interact with autonomous androids. Players will need to sign in using a World-authenticated Razer ID, ensuring interactions are exclusively among real players.

“As AI continues to reshape the gaming world, we want to empower gamers and developers to navigate this transformation safely,” remarked Wei-Pin Choo, Razer’s chief corporate officer. “By partnering with World, we’re focusing on keeping real players at the core of gaming experiences, ensuring fairness and immersion.”
