Kylian Mbappé’s X Account Hack Promotes Fraudulent Crypto Token

The official X account of French football star Kylian Mbappé appeared to be hacked overnight, allegedly promoting a Solana-based token with the ticker MBAPPE. Reports have surfaced from multiple online sources.

Mbappé, who recently joined Spanish La Liga giant Real Madrid, had one post stating, “VAMOSSS!! $MBAPPE ¡HalaMadrid!” along with a contract address for the token.

During the hack, Mbappé’s pinned tweet purportedly read, “I am giving back to my community. I support crypto and I believe you should too! All crypto sent to my address will be sent back to you doubled,” according to The Daily Mail.

The MBAPPE token was launched via the Solana token deployer platform pump.fun by an account identified as AuzmvP. It briefly surged to a theoretical market cap of $460 million before collapsing to less than $100,000, as reported by DEX Screener.

Token Purchases and Market Activity

Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain reported that one user bought 7,156 SOL (worth $1 million) in a single transaction, which is now valued at less than $10,000. Another user claimed to have initially bought 2 SOL (about $290) and sold at a high for a profit of roughly 1,398 SOL (around $200,000), according to The Mirror. The token currently has 838 holders based on data from the Solana blockchain explorer Solscan. It appears that other tokens using the same ticker have also been launched, likely trying to exploit the situation.

Odd Posts During the Hack

Amidst the crypto promotion, Mbappé’s account published several bizarre posts, including fake news about a transfer to Manchester United and mockery regarding the rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Additional controversial posts targeted various English Premier League teams, as well as comments on the Israel–Hamas war.

Social media users criticized these posts, with one fan account, @Kylian, questioning the effectiveness of his PR team and labeling the situation as “unacceptable.” However, details regarding the circumstances behind these posts remain uncertain, and Mbappé’s representatives have not yet responded to inquiries from The Block.

Increase in Celebrity Account Hacks

This incident isn’t isolated; celebrity social media account hacks appear to be increasing, particularly since the appearance of simple token deployment platforms like pump.fun. In June, a token themed after Hulk Hogan collapsed after he denied ownership of posts promoting it. Similarly, Metallica‘s official account was hacked that same month to endorse another pump.fun token called METAL. Most recently, Doja Cat’s account was compromised to promote a token named DOJA, and McDonald’s Instagram was hacked to advertise the Solana token GRIMACE.
