Allegro's Ceneo Files Lawsuit Against Google
GDANSK (Reuters) – A subsidiary of Polish e-commerce platform Allegro (WA:ALEP) filed a lawsuit on Monday against Google owner Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Google Ireland, and Google LLC, seeking 2.33 billion zlotys ($568 million) in damages. Allegro claims these damages result from anti-competitive practices.
Ceneo, the unit in question, demands compensation for losses allegedly incurred due to Google's preference for its own price comparison service in browser results, which Ceneo believes harmed its business.
Alphabet, Google Ireland, and Google LLC have yet to respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
The claim involves 1.72 billion zlotys for losses endured by Ceneo and approximately 615 million zlotys in interest payments spanning from 2013 to Nov. 29, 2024. Additionally, Ceneo intends to seek statutory interest on the total amount from the date of the lawsuit until damages are paid.
