OKX Europe Acquires Malta-Licensed Firm

Crypto exchange OKX Europe has acquired a Malta-licensed firm with a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II) license, taking a significant step towards offering regulated derivatives products across Europe, as stated by the firm on Wednesday.

The newly acquired entity is expected to become operational later this year, pending approval from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). However, the exchange has not disclosed the identity of the acquired firm.

With the MiFID II license, OKX will be positioned to offer regulated derivatives products and services to its institutional clients within the European Economic Area. This area comprises 27 European Union member states along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

This acquisition further solidifies OKX’s standing as the third-largest exchange by market cap in the EU, according to the release. The exchange secured a Markets in Crypto Assets license from Malta in January.
