Off the Grid Major Update

Blockchain-driven battle royale shooter Off the Grid has launched what Gunzilla Games refers to as its “biggest update yet.” The update includes:

  • New Region: Midtown Harbour
  • New Cyberlimb: MaxiGun
  • First Street Event: Nuestros Diablos Gang
  • New Side Mission: Combat DJ
  • New Content Pack & Battle Pass Upgrade
  • Movement & Jetpack Improvements
  • Bug Fixes & UI Changes

Off the Grid made waves when it entered early access in October, merging battle royale and extraction shooter genres while featuring quirky characters in a reality TV-inspired setup. It quickly topped the Epic Games Store, even surpassing Fortnite, and won Decrypt’s Game of the Year award.

The previous December update focused on reworking game elements and boosting performance. However, this latest update aims to introduce exciting features to keep players engaged.

According to Gunzilla Games Director of Web3, Theodore Agranat, this release is the “biggest update yet.”

New Playable Region

The Midtown Harbour, an “industrial hell hole,” has been unlocked on the Teardrop Island map, marking the first phase in opening up the map further in 2025. Here, players will encounter the Mexican Nuestros Diablos gang, defending their turf fiercely. During this street event, players will compete against NPCs to claim a hex for rewards including weapons, cyberlimbs, or skins.

New Features

In addition to the new region, a side mission called “Combat DJ” pits teams against each other to control a DJ booth amidst booming music, awarding loot and XP for domination.

A significant addition is the MaxiGun cyberlimb, an automatic mini gatling gun attached to a player’s arm, potentially altering players’ strategic loadouts.

For those interested in cosmetics, there’s a Nuestros Diablos content pack and the Pacifist Character Set added to the battle pass.

The update also brings extensive bug fixes, weapon improvements, and user interface changes, although there does not seem to be any weapon balancing this time.

Currently, Off the Grid‘s crypto elements operate on the GUNZ testnet, with plans for a marketplace to allow trading of weapons, cyberlimbs, and skins.

While this update is promoted as the biggest yet, forthcoming integrations of crypto elements and the GUN token may offer even more significant changes expected to drive crypto gaming adoption.
