Nyan Heroes Playtest Announcement

Overwatch-style hero shooter Nyan Heroes announced its return to the Epic Games Store for a new playtest period starting March 26. This playtest, titled Playtest 04, will feature general improvements and enhancements, as well as introduce a new hero, game mode, and map.

The free-to-play team shooter incorporates elements of cryptocurrency, featuring a token and NFTs on the Solana blockchain. Players assume the role of a powered-up cat in a mech suit. The game has gained popularity, surpassing 100,000 players during its pre-alpha demo and becoming highly wishlisted on the Epic Games Store.

New Additions

• New Hero: 9 Lives Interactive is introducing Coco, a pilot with his mech Gizmo. Gizmo can deploy turrets, gather scraps for stronger armor, create floating platforms, and his ultimate ability allows him to build a giant version of himself that throws explosives and grants armor to allies.

  > “Gizmo will shake up the meta by protecting his team and providing easier access to high ground,” said Max Fu, CEO of 9 Lives.

• New Game Mode: Fishball, a fast-paced multiplayer mode reminiscent of Call of Duty’s Uplink, involves scoring points by carrying or throwing a pufferfish-like ball into the enemy goal.

  > “Teams must master distraction tactics while protecting the carrier,” Fu said.

• New Map: Set in a recreated Tokyo, this map is critical in the backstory, where Nyans defend against feral robot Guardians during a battle they ultimately lost. The design focuses on vertical movement, encouraging faster gameplay and complementing the new hero and game mode.

Additional Improvements

Along with the new features, the playtest will also include:
– Enhancements to the HUD
– Voiceover and music updates
– New secondary weapons
– An improved text chat system

Further upgrades will be shared before the playtest begins on March 26, and an airdrop campaign will take place during the playtest, though specific details remain unannounced.
