Marina Abramović’s New NFT Project

Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović has collaborated with digital marketplace TAEX to release three new NFT drops, symbolizing various elements of her work.

According to Artnet’s report, Abramović is returning to the blockchain with her new NFT project titled Marina Abramović Element (MAE). This project signifies her comeback to the web3 arena since her initial venture in 2021 when she offered her 2001 art piece, The Hero, as collectible NFTs.

For the latest project, Abramović is partnering with TAEX to launch three themed NFTs, each featuring interactive elements that highlight different facets of her artistic journey. The project is inspired by a fictional narrative devised by Abramović and will run from May to September 2025.

The three NFT drops include:
1. Art – Focusing on symbols and archetypes from her extensive artistic practice.
2. Life – Showcasing the utilization of locations, gestures, and outfits in her artworks.
3. The Marina Abramović Method – Illustrating her self-discovery process and the establishment of the Marina Abramović Institute in 2023.

Each drop will present various formats and rarity levels: Ordinary for still images, Rare for looped animations, and Epic for looped animations that correlate with real-life moon cycles.

In conjunction with these three drops, collectors can earn Transformational Crystals through specially designed games. The second NFT drop comes with a game called Maze, and the third drop will introduce the Counting Crystals game. These games allow participants to gain Transformational Crystals.

Holding Transformational Crystals will enable participants to mint limited-edition 5D MAE Performance and 5D MAE Avatar NFTs.

Following the final drop, the project will celebrate its culmination in November with an event called The Great Mint, where NFT collectors can mint the last piece, the MAE token. This token will be available in the form of video artworks and animations featuring Abramović’s digital avatar performing new variations of her renowned works.

To mint the MAE token, traders must first collect either all three Epic NFTs from the previous drops along with a Transformation Crystal, or three Rare NFTs and a Transformation Crystal.

Additionally, Sotheby’s is set to offer six pieces by AI art star Botto, a decentralized artist operated by a DAO.
