Teamsters Ratify Collective Bargaining Agreement at Marathon Petroleum
(Reuters) – Teamsters members working at Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC)'s Detroit refinery have voted to ratify a seven-year collective bargaining agreement, the company and the union said on Sunday, three months after workers walked off the job.
"The process to safely welcome our employees back to the refinery is already in progress," the Findlay, Ohio-based company stated.
Over 200 Teamsters at Marathon's Detroit refinery initiated the strike on September 4, following months of unsuccessful negotiations and mediations regarding pay and safety concerns. Their previous contract had expired in January this year.
Marathon representatives and Teamsters participated in several negotiation sessions under a federal mediator since the strike began.
The Detroit refinery has a capacity of 140,000 barrels per day (bpd) and is one of Marathon's 13 refineries, contributing to a total crude oil refining capacity of approximately 2.9 million bpd.
