France’s Investment in AI

PARIS (Reuters) – France will announce private sector investments totaling approximately 109 billion euros ($112.5 billion) in its artificial intelligence sector during the Paris AI summit, which opens on Monday, as stated by President Emmanuel Macron.

The financing includes plans by Canadian investment firm Brookfield to invest 20 billion euros in AI projects in France, along with potential financing from the United Arab Emirates that could reach 50 billion euros in the coming years, according to Macron’s office.

The Elysee Palace revealed that the UAE’s investment would encompass funding for a 1-gigawatt data center. Additionally, La Tribune de Dimanche reported that most of Brookfield’s investment would be allocated towards a data center.

As AI technology requires significant energy to operate large data centers, Europe is anticipated to face challenges in meeting future energy demands.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a $500 billion investment from OpenAI, SoftBank (TYO:9984), and Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) in AI infrastructure over the next four years to maintain the United States’ competitiveness against China and other global rivals in the AI sector.
