Kraft Heinz Stops Lunchables Production for Low-Income Students

By Jessica DiNapoli

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ:KHC) is no longer producing its Lunchables brand for low-income students benefiting from free and reduced-price federal meal programs, according to a company statement. This marks the latest challenge for one of the brand’s most recognizable products.

The Chicago-based company had announced plans to cater to the school lunch program at an industry conference early last year, aiming to penetrate the $25 billion educational market.

However, demand did not meet the packaged food manufacturer’s expectations as it seeks to revitalize its iconic products like Lunchables, Jell-O, and Crystal Light, amidst dwindling sales volumes following several price increases.
