IBM Unveils Granite 3.0 AI Models
(Reuters) – IBM (NYSE:IBM) released the latest version of its artificial intelligence models catered towards businesses on Monday, aiming to capitalize on the surge in enterprises adopting generative AI technology.
Open-Source Models
The "Granite 3.0" models will be made open-source, similar to other versions in IBM's Granite family of AI models. This strategy contrasts with competitors like Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), which charge customers for access to their models.
Paid Tools and Availability
IBM also offers a paid tool called Watsonx, designed to run models inside data centers after customization. Some variants of the new Granite models are available starting Monday for commercial use on the Watsonx platform. Additionally, a selection of these models will be accessible on Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA)’s suite of software tools that facilitate AI model integration in businesses.
Technology Behind Granite Models
The new Granite models were trained using Nvidia's H100 graphics processor units (GPUs), as stated by Dario Gil, IBM's director of research.
