Hyundai Motor's Supernal Partners for Air Taxi Infrastructure

(Reuters) – Hyundai Motor's Supernal announced on Tuesday a partnership with a private jet charter firm and a passenger helicopter operator to develop air taxi infrastructure.

Supernal aims to launch its five-seat, battery-powered electric vehicle take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial intra-city passenger journeys by 2028.

This initiative is part of a global trend where numerous companies are creating battery-powered aircraft that can vertically take off and land, enhancing urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion.

Though the concept shows great potential, the industry faces regulatory challenges and must overcome battery limitations, alongside ensuring public safety perceptions regarding their aircraft.

The first agreement involves Supernal and Clay Lacy, a private jet charter provider, working together to prepare Clay Lacy's fixed base operator (FBO) locations for eVTOL takeoff and landing. This partnership marks Supernal's initial FBO collaboration.

The second agreement with Blade Urban Air Mobility focuses on jointly exploring advanced air mobility networks and operations. Over three years, Blade and its partners will provide Supernal with feedback on aircraft design and safety across various operating markets.
