US Presidents’ Phone Call on Geopolitical Issues

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed key geopolitical topics, particularly the conflict in Ukraine, during a phone call lasting over an hour. This conversation occurred as Washington seeks Moscow’s approval for a potential ceasefire.

The Kremlin confirmed that the leaders talked about the Ukraine crisis and agreed to continue communication, according to Russian state news agency TASS. A significant outcome of their discussion was the planned prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia, with each side agreeing to exchange 175 prisoners.

In addition to Ukraine, Putin and Trump addressed Middle Eastern issues and global energy concerns. To ease tensions, Russia and the U.S. will create an expert group to help resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russia has committed to transferring 23 severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv as a humanitarian act. However, the Kremlin noted challenges in establishing control over a potential ceasefire, emphasizing that Ukrainian mobilization and armament must stop for a ceasefire to be effective.

During the talks, Putin agreed to a 30-day pause in attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which could possibly provide temporary relief to the war-ravaged area, according to media reports.

They also discussed sports diplomacy, with Trump reportedly backing Putin’s idea to hold an ice hockey match between Russian and American players in the United States.

Nevertheless, Bitcoin prices remain under pressure after the talks, with no definitive ceasefire confirmed. Expectations had been that BTC would respond favorably to a ceasefire or peace agreement.
