Ryan Salame Requests Delay in Prison Sentence
Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has petitioned a court to begin his prison sentence in December instead of in a few days, seeking medical care for injuries sustained from a dog bite over the summer.
Salame's lawyer filed a request to postpone his surrender date from October 11 to December 7. The filing indicates disagreement from the government regarding the motion.
> "On behalf of Ryan Salame, we respectfully request that the Court continue the date for Salame to voluntarily surrender to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to begin serving his sentence from Friday, October 11, 2024, to Friday, December 7, 2024, so that he may receive continuing medical treatment deemed necessary by his treating physician to recover from the injuries sustained on or about June 29, 2024," his lawyer stated.
Previously, Salame sought a delay from August to October for urgent surgery after a dog incident, and the court granted this request. His lawyers indicated that he was evaluated by a doctor on July 3 for injuries resulting from a dog bite.
Salame, the former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple criminal charges last year. In September, he admitted to conspiring to make unlawful political contributions and to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business. He worked closely with former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving nearly 25 years in prison after a criminal fraud trial in late 2022.
