Proof of Play Expands Pirate Nation with a New Chain
Proof of Play's web3 game Pirate Nation is adding a second chain after its first reached maximum capacity, the company announced.
The gaming startup, co-founded by FarmVille co-creator Amitt Mahajan, revealed that its free-to-play game Pirate Nation has become so popular it maxed out the capacity of the first network, called Apex, which is built as an Arbitrum L3 chain. To accommodate the increasing number of users and transactions, Proof of Play is launching a second chain named Boss Chain.
“To continue scaling the game, we are introducing additional chains, starting with Boss Chain,” the developer noted. Pirate Nation, a pirate-themed roleplaying game, launched nearly three months ago and quickly secured a token listing on Coinbase.
Last year, a16z crypto and Greenoaks co-led a $33 million seed round in Proof of Play, with Naval Ravikant participating as well.
In Wednesday's statement, Mahajan outlined the benefits of using multiple blockchains. “To scale to any significant number of users, transactions need to be distributed across several chains,” he explained. “During my time developing Farmville, we managed around 64 databases to support 30 million daily active users and prevent crashes.”
Currently, Apex processes about 2.5 million transactions per day.
