Blockchain firm Movement is set to launch its public mainnet in beta, advancing towards the deployment of its Movement Virtual Machine (MoveVM) on Ethereum.

This launch will enable smart contract deployment and allow users to build and utilize the network for the first time, according to an announcement from the Movement Network Foundation sent via email on Monday.

Move was initially developed by Facebook to support its digital currency initiative, which was abandoned in early 2022. This technology paved the way for layer-1 networks like Sui and Aptos, and now Movement Labs is extending the programming language to create an Ethereum layer 2 solution.
