Changpeng Zhao’s Guide to Crypto Security
Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, recently addressed his millions of followers on X, sharing updated advice on how to keep cryptocurrency secure. This guidance comes on the heels of a recent Bybit hacker attack, where North Korean cybercriminals stole $1.4 billion in Ethereum.
3 Key Steps to Crypto Security from CZ
CZ expressed his concerns over the lack of security awareness among crypto users and noted that many advanced setups are challenging and prone to mistakes. He stated:
> “Spent the Sunday updating this security tips article from 5 years ago. Shrunk it from 5500 to 4300 words. If you haven’t read it before, I recommend reading it. It might just save you from a hack (that you never know because you avoided it). Stay SAFU!”
Despite not being an expert in security, he outlined three important steps for safely storing coins:
- Prevent others from stealing.
- Prevent yourself from losing it.
- Have a way to pass them to your loved ones in case you become unavailable.
Following These Steps is Not Easy
CZ acknowledged that following his advice isn’t simple and elaborated on each step. He emphasized the importance of securely backing up private keys to avoid loss, and ensuring that family members can access your crypto assets after your passing.
Additionally, he provided a detailed guide on how to store crypto using computers and hardware wallets. One key recommendation is to “protect crypto against yourself” by having multiple backups in case of device loss or damage. Furthermore, he suggests using reputable centralized exchanges for added security.
