Turbo Protocol Launches High-Speed Blockchain
Ethereum ETH +3.29% scaling solution Turbo Protocol has launched a new blockchain, reportedly capable of processing 400,000 transactions per second, which is about 4,000 times faster than high-throughput chains like Solana, as announced at the Blockchain Application Stanford Summit on Tuesday.
This project is one of many exploring parallel transaction processing, which allows for recording multiple transactions concurrently, compared to the current sequential processing on Ethereum, as stated by the Turbo team in a press release.
For reference, Ethereum’s base layer handles about 20 to 30 transactions per second, while Solana processes just over 1,000 transactions per second and Visa settles around 24,000 transactions in a similar timeframe.
Turbo CEO Aaron Greenblatt showcased the live functionality of the blockchain during the summit in New York City, highlighting that applications deployed on this Layer 2 network will not contend with Ethereum gas fees.
“Any Web3 project aiming to move heavy computational workloads on-chain can utilize Turbo Protocol,” said Greenblatt, referencing potential projects in decentralized AI, gaming, and social sectors.
Since its inception in 2015, Ethereum has struggled with slow transaction processing and often experiences high fees, forcing users to compete for transaction inclusion in blocks. Layer 2 networks such as Turbo, Optimism, and Polygon are exploring various methods to enhance blockchain efficiency by batching transactions that are eventually consolidated onto the main Ethereum blockchain.
