An exploiter stole a significant amount of tokens from crypto casino Metawin's Ethereum and Solana hot wallets by exploiting the protocol's "frictionless withdrawal system," announced CEO Richard "Skel" Skelhorn.
Blockchain researcher ZachXBT, alongside Skelhorn, estimated the theft to be over $4 million, with 115 addresses linked to the exploit, indicating a competent hacker. "So far, the stolen funds have been transferred to Kucoin and a HitBTC nested service," noted ZachXBT.
Metawin temporarily disabled withdrawals but has since re-enabled them. Skelhorn confirmed that authorities had been notified.
"We’re not gonna dwell on it. It’s in the hands of the feds now, and we will make some internal adjustments to keep the players happy but the bad actors at bay," stated Skelhorn in an update on Discord. In a previous message, he indicated he covered the loss with his personal funds, saying, "I just emptied my piggy bank; we don’t dwell on it. We keep building."
This is a developing story.
