Story Highlights

  • Acting CFTC Chairman Caroline Pham aligns with President Donald Trump’s crypto policy.
  • Public participation requested via written submissions by August 18.
  • Clear regulations will attract more capital to the crypto market, especially from traditional financial institutions.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has launched an initiative to enable trading for crypto asset contracts through its regulated exchanges. According to acting chairman Caroline Pham, this initiative marks the first crypto-focused effort aimed at mainstream adoption of digital assets in the United States.

Additionally, President Donald Trump has instructed all relevant agencies to enforce clear crypto regulations as guided by Congress. Pham emphasized that the CFTC’s initiative will support the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets report, recently released.

> “The Commodity Exchange Act currently requires that retail trading of commodities with leverage, margin, or financing must be conducted on a DCM. Starting today, we invite all stakeholders to collaborate with us on providing regulatory clarity on how to list spot crypto asset contracts on a DCM using our existing authority, as I have previously proposed since 2022,” Pham noted.

What Will Be the Expected Impact of CFTC’s Crypto Initiative Amid Ongoing Macro Bull Market?

The CFTC is actively engaging the public in implementing its initiative to allow the trading of spot crypto asset contracts on its regulated exchanges. The agency expects written submissions from the public by August 18, 2025.

After the agency incorporates the recommendations from the public through established legal channels, the demand for crypto assets is anticipated to surge rapidly. Furthermore, investors will gain seamless access to crypto assets through the CFTC’s registered exchanges.

The ongoing macro crypto bull market is significantly supported by demand from institutional investors, led by Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) and BlackRock’s IBIT.
