Lace Wallet Expands to Multichain Support

Lace, a web3 non-custodial wallet developed by Input Output, is now multichain, with initial support extending to Bitcoin.

Input Output, an infrastructure and web3 research platform founded in 2015 by Charles Hoskinson and Jeremy Wood, announced this development via a press release on March 20. Hoskinson, founder of Cardano (ADA), one of the leading cryptocurrency and blockchain projects, emphasized the importance of this update.

According to IO, the Lace wallet’s non-custodial solution is officially multichain, expanding beyond Cardano to now include Bitcoin (BTC).

> “The future of blockchain is multichain, and with Lace, we’re making sure users have everything they need in one powerful, easy-to-use wallet. Building on the foundations we have established with Cardano, we identified Bitcoin as the logical next step. And we’re just getting started,” said Brandon Wolf, general manager at Lace.

Now, users can store, manage, and transfer BTC with Lace.

According to IO, this BTC integration is a significant milestone in bringing web3 closer to reality. It not only accelerates Bitcoin’s adoption but also enhances the broader ecosystem, as Bitcoin gains increased traction across decentralized finance (DeFi) and smart contracts. Many layer-2 solutions on Bitcoin are also seeing heightened adoption.

> “Bitcoin was the starting point for many people’s Web3 journey, and now we are witnessing its next evolution with the rise of Bitcoin DeFi. With Bitcoin integration now live, Lace is creating a seamless, intuitive gateway to maximize the best of blockchain innovation,” said Hoskinson.

This integration offers an “intuitive gateway” to facilitate blockchain innovation and contribute to the growth of DeFi, added Hoskinson.

Beyond DeFi, Lace’s web3 initiatives include non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and multi-chain asset management.

Bitcoin continues to garner attention for its potential, with the zero-knowledge powered platform BitcoinOS among those advocating for its integration with crypto. The project has open-sourced its BitSNARK v0.2, enabling limitless BTC programmability. The BitcoinOS team announced this on X, stating the code allows anyone to verify ZK proofs on Bitcoin.
