Canada Stock Market Report
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Materials, and REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.43%.
Best Performers
- Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) rose 12.66% or 1.44 points to trade at 12.81 at the close.
- Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd (TSX:TVE) added 6.74% or 0.26 points to end at 4.15.
- Capital Power Corporation (TSX:CPX) was up 4.00% or 2.17 points to 56.47 in late trade.
Worst Performers
- Veren Inc (TSX:VRN) fell 14.44% or 1.21 points to trade at 7.17 at the close.
- Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX) declined 11.13% or 5.23 points to end at 41.76.
- Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) was down 10.52% or 4.26 points to 36.22.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 696 to 246, and 86 ended unchanged.
Shares in Veren Inc (TSX:VRN) fell to 52-week lows, while shares in Capital Power Corporation (TSX:CPX) rose to all-time highs.
Market Volatility
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.40% to 11.87.
Commodities
- Gold Futures for December delivery were down 1.54% or 43.20 to $2,757.60 a troy ounce.
- Crude Oil for delivery in December rose 2.75% or 1.89 to hit $70.50 a barrel.
- Brent Oil for January rose 2.62% or 1.89 to trade at $74.05 a barrel.
Currency Exchange Rates
- CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.72.
- CAD/EUR was unchanged 0.39% to 0.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 103.81.
