Canada’s stocks closed lower on Tuesday, driven down by losses in the Materials, Energy, and IT sectors.

At the end of trading in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.30%.

Best Performers

  • Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC): +3.00% or 0.24 points, trading at 8.23.
  • Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB): +2.36% or 0.61 points, closing at 26.42.
  • Telus Corp (TSX:T): +1.98% or 0.43 points, finishing at 22.20.

Worst Performers

  • First Quantum Minerals Ltd (TSX:FM): -13.79% or 2.34 points, trading at 14.63.
  • Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN): -12.52% or 1.75 points, ending at 12.23.
  • Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS): -11.17% or 1.08 points, closing at 8.59.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 708 to 272, while 72 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures implied volatility for S&P/TSX Composite options, increased 3.46% to 10.76.
