Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Energy, and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.94%.
Top Performers
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were:
– iA Financial Corporation Inc (TSX:IAG), which rose 16.51% or 18.99 points to trade at 134.00.
– TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII) added 11.40% or 21.33 points to end at 208.51.
– Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL) was up 7.95% or 1.16 points to 15.76 in late trade.
Bottom Performers
The worst performers of the session were:
– Stella-Jones Inc (TSX:SJ), which fell 14.44% or 12.67 points to trade at 75.05.
– Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 12.24% or 0.30 points to end at 2.15.
– Bird Construction Inc (TSX:BDT) was down 11.23% or 3.49 points to 27.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 494 to 435, and 86 ended unchanged.
Shares in iA Financial Corporation Inc (TSX:IAG) rose to all-time highs, up 16.51% or 18.99 to 134.00. Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) fell to 52-week lows, down 12.24% or 0.30 to 2.15. Shares in Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL) rose to 52-week highs, gaining 7.95% or 1.16 to 15.76.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.56% to 11.10.
Commodities
- Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.88% or 79.10 to $2,670.60 a troy ounce.
- Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.14% or 0.10 to hit $71.89 a barrel.
- The January Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.39 to trade at $75.14 a barrel.
Currency
- CAD/USD was down 0.80% to 0.72.
- CAD/EUR rose 0.98% to 0.67.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.60% at 104.98.
