Canada Stock Market Update
Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials, and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.14% to hit a new all-time high.
Top Performers
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were:
– Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (TSX:CNQ): +4.48% (2.01 points) to trade at 46.92
– Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE): +4.46% (0.18 points) to end at 4.22
– Imperial Oil Ltd (TSX:IMO): +4.38% (4.17 points) to 99.32 in late trade.
Worst Performers
The worst performers of the session were:
– BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB): -7.58% (0.27 points) to trade at 3.29
– Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY): -3.78% (0.09 points) to end at 2.29
– Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ): -3.54% (1.80 points) to 49.03.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 497 to 413, with 112 ending unchanged.
Market Volatility
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.64% to 12.37.
Commodities Update
- Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.83% (21.95) to $2,681.35 a troy ounce.
- Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.74% (2.55) to hit $70.72 a barrel.
- December Brent oil contract rose 3.70% (2.65) to trade at $74.35 a barrel.
Currency Update
- CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.23% to 0.74.
- CAD/EUR rose 0.84% to 0.67.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 100.96.
