Canada Stock Market Overview

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Financials, and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.05% to hit a new all-time high.

BRP Inc (TSX:DOO): +6.91% (up 4.70 points to 72.75)
TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA): +6.47% (up 1.16 points to 19.10)
SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM): +5.50% (up 0.47 points to 9.01)

Worst Performers

The worst performers of the session were:
Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG): -11.78% (down 3.76 points to 28.15)
Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB): -5.38% (down 3.16 points to 55.59)
Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd (TSX:TVE): -4.31% (down 0.20 points to 4.44)

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 527 to 433, with 85 ending unchanged.

Shares in TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) rose to 5-year highs, up 6.47% or 1.16 to 19.10.

Market Volatility

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.20% to 9.12, a new 3-month low.
