Bank of Japan Governor's Upcoming Speech

TOKYO (Reuters) – Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda will deliver a speech and hold a news conference in Nagoya on Monday. This event is highly anticipated by markets for potential hints regarding an interest rate hike next month.

This will be Ueda's first public appearance since Donald Trump's election victory on November 5th, coinciding with Japan's unexpectedly resilient third-quarter GDP data reflecting strong consumption.

The scheduled activities are as follows: Ueda will deliver a speech and engage with business executives from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (0100-0230 GMT), followed by a press conference from 1:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. (0445-0515 GMT), as stated by the central bank on Friday.

Historically, BOJ governors visit Osaka and Nagoya each year to discuss economic views with business leaders and clarify the central bank's monetary policy.

Market analysts are closely monitoring Ueda's comments for signals regarding the timing of any potential interest rate hike, opinions vary on whether it might occur in December or January.

Since March, the BOJ has moved away from negative interest rates, raising the short-term policy rate to 0.25% in July, anticipating that Japan is nearing its 2% inflation target.
