Boeing Delivers 33 Jets in September

(Reuters) – Boeing (NYSE:BA) announced on Tuesday that it delivered 33 jets in September, a decrease from 40 deliveries in August. This decline was influenced by a strike mid-month involving about 33,000 U.S. West Coast factory workers, which impacted production.

Despite the decrease, Boeing's September deliveries increased by six jets compared to the same month in 2023, when the company faced difficulties delivering its successful 737 MAX models due to a manufacturing defect.

The strike, which began on September 13, halted production of the MAX, as well as the 777 and 767 widebody jets—critical revenue sources for Boeing—during a challenging period marked by reduced narrowbody production and weak margins in its defense sector.

In September, Boeing delivered 27 MAX jets to customers, including five to United Airlines and three each to Ryanair and Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV), whose executives have voiced concerns over declining deliveries.

Delivery figures are closely monitored by investors since manufacturers typically receive most payment upon transferring a jet to a customer. Boeing anticipates a decrease in future deliveries because of the ongoing strike.

Additionally, Boeing recorded 65 gross orders in September, consisting of 54 737 MAXs and 11 777 freighters for unidentified clients. On September 19, China Development Bank Financial Leasing announced an order for 50 Boeing MAX jets.

As of September 30, Boeing's gross order total for the year reached 315. After accounting for cancellations and conversions, the net total stands at 272 orders since the beginning of 2024.

After further accounting adjustments, Boeing reported an adjusted net order figure of 121 airplanes this year. Throughout the year, up to September 30, Boeing has delivered 291 airplanes, including 225 MAX jets.
