BNB Chain Optimization for BSC Network
BNB Chain has introduced an optimization for its BSC network amid increasing memecoin speculation, resulting in higher gas fees and some congestion issues.
Current BSC Validator Process
Currently, BSC validators stop evaluating bids once they reach the block limit, with new blocks created every 3 seconds. During high traffic, time-sensitive transactions like memecoin swaps fail to make it into a block.
BNB Chain noted, “This meant that even users who increased their gas fees (transaction fees) to expedite their transactions weren’t necessarily getting the priority they expected.” This system suits typical use cases but falls short for rapid, high-stakes meme coin trading.
New Validator Bidding Process
The new optimization allows validators to gather more bids within the same 3-second window, enabling higher-value transactions to replace lower-priority ones.
BNB Chain stated, “This will allow validators to gather more bids, increasing the chance of incorporating the best ones and improving overall block building performance, especially during periods of high network activity.” This adjustment prioritizes transactions that deal with time-sensitive meme coin contracts.
Historic Activity on BNB Chain
BNB’s recent price surge has correlated with historic gas fees on the network. Over the last week, BNB Chain users paid nearly $15 million in transaction fees—more than double Ethereum’s $7 million, trailing only Solana’s $29 million, according to Nansen data. BNB Chain’s gas fees have surged 388% compared to the previous period.
According to Nansen analyst Aurelie Barthere, “BSC’s fees surged 114% over the past 7 days, while Solana, Ethereum, and Base have seen negative growth. One potential catalyst for this growth could be the recent 60-day pause in Binance’s legal battle with the SEC.”
The rise of memecoins, inspired by Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao’s dog Broccoli, has also increased network activity, benefiting the decentralized exchange PancakeSwap.
“More to come. Build!” CZ remarked on X when announcing the network upgrade.
