Changpeng Zhao on Telegram Usage

Changpeng Zhao, former chief executive officer at cryptocurrency exchange Binance, has revealed that he does not use Telegram.

While Zhao states that he has nothing against the popular messaging app, he stopped using it due to being overwhelmed with spam messages, which caused his phone to lag.

The primary issue is that Telegram does not allow users to restrict messages from random users who know their handle. This leaves public figures, like Zhao, highly exposed to incessant spamming.

Zhao even mentioned that he personally complained about this problem to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov.

Paying for DMs?

After an X user suggested a feature for paying for direct messages, Zhao recalled his experience with ReachMe, a paid platform he tested earlier this year.

Zhao initially aimed to limit meaningful messages to about 10 per day, but later found that scammers were eager to pay.

Additionally, blockchain security firm SlowMist uncovered a vulnerability allowing users to bypass payments for direct messages.
