Bavarian Nordic Signs Agreement with UNICEF for Mpox Vaccine
(Reuters) – Bavarian Nordic announced on Thursday the signing of an agreement with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to supply one million doses of its mpox vaccine, Jynneos, to African countries affected by the disease outbreak.
The deal includes 500,000 doses previously promised by Gavi, a public-private partnership that co-funds vaccine purchases for low-income nations.
The Danish biotech company stated it intends to provide all doses by the end of this year and collaborate with partners to ensure the availability of vaccines beyond 2024.
This is the first award of vaccines through an emergency tender issued by UNICEF, aimed at securing mpox vaccines for countries in crisis, in partnership with the Gavi alliance, Africa CDC, and the World Health Organization.
