Bank of England Repo Allotment
LONDON (Reuters) – The Bank of England announced on Thursday that it had allotted 46.180 billion pounds ($57.49 billion) in its first short-term repo of 2025. This amount is the second-highest on record, increased from 38.075 billion pounds allotted in a repo on December 19.
The short-term repo facility allows banks to borrow money from the BoE—typically for a seven-day period—using high-quality collateral. This mechanism is designed to keep interbank lending rates aligned with the BoE’s policy interest rate.
The highest amount ever allotted in a repo was 46.743 billion pounds on October 24.
