AltLayer's Autonome Platform

AltLayer, an infrastructure provider for scalable Layer 2 solutions, has unveiled Autonome, a platform designed to accelerate the development of the Verifiable Agentic Web, enabling the creation, deployment, discovery, and distribution of autonomous AI agents.

The Verifiable Agentic Web

The Verifiable Agentic Web is a decentralized digital ecosystem where autonomous AI agents can be verified for integrity and trustworthiness, with their interactions securely recorded on-chain.

The upcoming platform allows developers and decentralized applications to build and interact with self-governing intelligent agents. According to the project, “These AI agents will be able to think, act, and make decisions independently and purposefully.”

Autonomous vs. Traditional AI Agents

Unlike traditional AI bots, which follow rigid, pre-set instructions, Autonome agents aim to exhibit true autonomy—reasoning and adapting based on “personal values, principles, and goals.” They actively participate in the decentralized ecosystem, making informed decisions, collaborating, iterating, and transacting seamlessly with other agents.

Security through Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)

Operating within a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), these agents assure users that their operations are secure, verifiable, and trustworthy—crucial for secure interactions in decentralized networks. For example, in the DeFi sector, an agent could autonomously manage user assets, adapt to market conditions, rebalance funds, and restake tokens while aligning actions with the user’s risk profile.

No-Code Platform for Developers

Autonome will be released as a no-code platform designed to simplify each stage of working with autonomous agents, providing a suite of tools for developers and users to create, manage, and distribute agents. The Build Studio, currently in development, will provide an intuitive design environment using tools like the Coinbase Development Kit (CDK) Agent Kit, powered by LangChain, to help both novice and experienced developers build model-agnostic AI agents more easily.

Once designed, these agents can be deployed securely with a few clicks through Autonome’s deployment portal. A dedicated marketplace will allow developers to share and monetize their agents, fostering a collaborative ecosystem for users to browse and integrate agents that meet their needs. AltLayer believes that autonomous AI will be key in the decentralized, agent-driven future of blockchain ecosystems.

Funding and Future Plans

AltLayer has yet to confirm a specific launch date for Autonome but has opened a waitlist for early access. In February, AltLayer raised $14.4 million in a strategic funding round co-led by Polychain Capital and Hack VC to expand its team and further develop its rollup infrastructure. This followed the January launch of its native token, ALT, and subsequent staking opportunities for users.

Rise of AI Agent Memecoins

The rise of autonomous AI agents is transforming the crypto cultural landscape, evident in the popularity of memecoins reflecting growing interest in autonomous AI.

Goatseus Maximus, a well-known AI memecoin, owes part of its success to endorsements by the AI chatbot Truth Terminal, which has actively promoted the memecoin on X. Launched by an anonymous developer, the token gained attention after Truth Terminal discussed it in a series of posts called the Goatse Gospel.

Truth Terminal, developed by researcher Andy Ayrey, is claimed to be an experimental AI that posts autonomously. Its activities have spurred interest on social and mainstream media, including receiving $50,000 in bitcoin from venture capitalist Marc Andreessen. While initially considering launching its own token, Truth Terminal ultimately endorsed Goatseus Maximus, further fueling hype around the project.

Ayrey’s chatbot seemingly became a crypto millionaire after a surge in value of a memecoin called fartcoin. However, scrutiny arose over the @truth_terminal account, with community members questioning whether a human rather than AI is behind the account due to various spelling errors in its posts.
