ElizaOS: Formerly Ai16z
Ai16z, an open-source platform for building and managing AI agents, has undergone a rebranding to ElizaOS.
Shaw Walters, the project’s founder, announced on X that this change would enhance collaboration with established players.
The project oversees the Eliza agent development framework, a robust platform for AI agent management.
The original name echoed that of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), which Walters described as a playful reference at the time of launching with a $75,000 raise on the daos.fun platform.
As the project grew to become a leading AI agent platform in the blockchain space, a serious rebranding became necessary to avoid potential trademark issues.
Walters mentioned, “In just three months, we grew our AUM 300x. Now we’re leveling up with a cohesive brand and working on Eliza v2.”
Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z’s crypto arm, confirmed in a podcast that a16z had requested the name change due to confusion.
ElizaOS’s cryptocurrency token is currently priced at $0.6, with a market capitalization exceeding $600 million.
Despite the rebranding, the project will retain the ai16z ticker for its token for now, with any future modifications subject to community voting through a new DAO voting module.
Walters clarified that no new tokens will be issued during the rebranding process.
