Adobe to Launch Free Web-Based App for Creators
(Reuters) – Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) announced on Tuesday it will introduce a free web-based app next year to assist image and video creators in receiving credit for their work used in AI systems.
Since 2019, Adobe and other tech companies have been collaborating on "Content Credentials," a digital stamp for photos and videos across the web that indicates how they were created.
TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, has already committed to using Content Credentials for labeling AI-generated content.
Based in San Jose, California, Adobe plans to provide a free service enabling creators of photos and videos to affix Content Credentials to their works.
In addition to signifying authorship, creators can indicate if they prefer their work not be utilized by AI training systems that process large amounts of data, according to the company.
The integration of data in AI training has led to legal actions across industries, with publishers like the New York Times suing OpenAI, while others have pursued licensing agreements.
No major AI firm has yet agreed to adopt Adobe's transparency system. However, Adobe stated it is "actively working to drive industry-wide adoption" of its standards.
Scott Belsky, Chief Strategy Officer and EVP for Design and Emerging Products at Adobe, remarked, "By offering creators a simple, free, and easy way to attach Content Credentials to what they create, we are helping them preserve the integrity of their work, while enabling a new era of transparency and trust online."
